What is going on in the store???
Batik Butterflies is our newest block of the month! This is a QP original and we are taking sign ups now for a September 2007 start. This 81" square appliqué quilt - you can do it by hand or by machine - has 16 different butterflies and will be offered for $19.95 per month in batiks as shown or for $16.95 per month in 1930s reproductions. The first 8 months you will receive the patterns & the fabrics for two butterflies per month, the 9th month we will send the sashings & month 10 we will send the outer border & the binding. The quilt is now hanging in the lobby for your enjoyment & you can sign up in the store or on the web page by clicking here.

Martha Sea Stars - my newest quilt design! The quilt is hanging in the lobby, quilted beautifully by Sue Bower & pieced by Dona Coffey. This is a challenge quilt done with 10 other shop owners from around the country, we had to design something with the Martha Washington block. I designed this & then discovered I had to name it - ugh, I hate naming quilts, they always sound so dorky. This quilt was Martha Spinning In Her Grave for quite awhile until Judy told me that I needed to NAME IT SOMETHING ELSE! Then it was Spinning Martha but that sounded like she was at a gym in a cycling class so Mary Ann & Kristie came up with Martha's Sea Stars. The pattern is almost ready, it just needs a good picture on the front & the kits are ready to go - but they need the pattern! Look for it up on the web site & in the store next week.
And look for the next shop owner's challenge using a basket block - of course my working name is Basket Case - Judy's already vetoed that name too & since she's piecing the sample, she gets to name it.
We still have the trunk show from Happy Hour - Terry Atkinson's newest book. It has the cutest little purse! It will be here until the end of the week and then it's being shipped onto the next store.

We also now have silk dupioni! Gorgeous 45" wide silk is perfect for clothing, pillows, quilts & more! The September Embroidery Club will be using it to make a holiday pillow. We have it in cream, red, dusty pink & we are waiting for dark green. I see lots of silk dupioni holiday gifts this year!

This week's quilting tip - buy quilting stencils when you find them! Stencils seem to be getting harder & harder to find & for people like me - drawing challenged! - a stencil is the only way to get a rubber duck on the quilt to free motion so it actually looks like a rubber duck! Stencils aren't that expensive & don't take up much room, so purchase stencils when you see them. You just know that if you agonize over buying that fish stencil & finally decide not to - somewhere down the road, you are going to want a fish stencil and not be able to find one!
